Welcome to the Kati Keksi monthly newsletter, bringing together the latest content from the Kati Keksi website as well as highlights from social media including Facebook and Instagram. Hey there June, I cannot believe just how thorough Melbourne was to completely change the weather on June first. It's been nothing but high winds and chilly temperatures for the last few days. π₯Ά The perfect excuse to sit in and home and get my newsletter out on time? Not quite! Truth be told, it's been a hectic week with my husband travelling for work and me navigating things solo. I've managed to fit in three gym visits, filmed and edited two reels and ... written nothing for my website. π But I have been posting a lot on Facebook and to be honest it's felt like a lot of bad news. We've seen not one, but two gluten free noodle brands deleted from Woolworths supermarkets. It's brutal. For coeliacs, gluten free folks, for the brands and for the product category as well. How can a store with thousands products, including seemingly 130 tinned tuna options, decide that they can't sustain more than one gluten free noodle brand? I'm writing this Thursday night, not long after posting my monthly new products reel to Instagram. A thought occurred to me, if I look back at one of the first new products reels I posted, would any of those products still be available? Surprising results I watched three reels from May 2025 and earlier and I could see that actually a lot have survived. But there were still notable losses. Pasta Roma shells, literally the only pasta shell in either of the main two supermarkets. Gone. (btw if you want shells, check my pasta guide) YUM noodles, they were in my April 2025 reel. They lasted a year. Betty Crocker cookie mix May 2025, less than a year. Fancy Coles ready meals, less than a year (and damn, they were tasty!) Coles family-sized tandoori ready meal. This one was so loved, by so many. I'm still hurt about this one. It's interesting, my assumption was proven wrong but yet, perhaps its recency bias? It feels like a lot of products have gone in the last few months. Or rather, I feel like I've been sharing bad news. Whether it's product changes, recalls, deletions or wheat appearing in absurd places. One really, really good deletion Any newsletter feature should end on a positive note, so here it is. Dr Oetker gluten free pizza is on heavy clearance at Woolworths. I've seen it as low as $6. So, why is this a positive note? Are you cursing me for celebrating the clearance of the most reliable gluten free emergency meal around the world? Fair. But here's why. The original recipe is finally coming back! Back in July 2025 Dr Oetker GF pizza (made in Germany) suddenly pivoted to using a blend of plant-based cheese alternative, alongside full dairy cheese. It was baffling. As it turned out, Germany's dairy industry had a disease outbreak affecting its products. As a result Australia heavily restricted dairy sourced, manufactured or exported from Germany. Regular Dr Oetker pizzas (wheat ones) are made in Australia. The GF ones apparently are only made in Germany. Thankfully, I contacted the Dr Oetker a few times over the last year. This email from February gave me hope. The Gluten Free Mozzarella Pizza will be back on shelves in June to July this year. Due to Coles ranging timings they are clearing the Cherry Tomatoes & Pesto now; Woolworths will continue to have stock until the original recipe is available. Four countries and counting I've eaten the Dr Oetker GF pizza in the UK, in Finland, Australia and I'm pretty sure in TΓΌrkiye. I am certainly going to celebrate by buying this pillar of the gluten free freezer section as soon as the original recipe is back in stock. π Kati x Oh by the way, if you're new to my newsletter you can catch up on previous editions.
