The January recap and will 2026 be bigger than 2025?

Welcome to the Kati Keksi monthly newsletter, bringing together the latest content from the Kati Keksi website as well as highlights from social media including Facebook and Instagram.

Hey there!

It's refreshing, I'm writing this intro over my morning coffee several days before this newsletter goes out. The last few newsletters have been written hastily the night I sent them. πŸ˜…

I came to write this piece early because I've got so many thoughts swimming around my head. Thoughts about 2026 and what it is going to look like.

Just a moment ago I was thinking about the upcoming changes to our family's schedule. Our kid will be three this year and that means heading off to early childhood learning.

What it also means is regular alone time for me, which is what has been on my mind.

How will my time be used?

What I'm wondering is how to divide up my free time. Do I use it for personal things? Like going to the gym or prepping dinner.

Or, do I focus my time on trying to grow my business?

Kati Keksi is basically a business these days. Not the most successful - I won't get Shark Tank funding any time soon. But it is fulfilling and there is a lot more I could be doing.

What I noticed last year is that I really cannot predict what articles be successful on my website.

A lot of that comes down to how well it performs on search (so, Google).

People finding me through search is what I think of as passive traffic. Traffic without me actively promoting it.

One of the most successful posts last year via search was the Curly Wurly slice. It performed well passively because there are so few websites with a version of this recipe.

A few hours work, and a lot of sweat getting some nice photos absolutely paid off.

If you read last month's newsletter you would have seen that my What's gluten free at Maccas? article was the second most popular post.

However, that post does not perform well on search (around 1/10th of what Curly Wurly gets). I only get visits to that article when I actively share it on Facebook and Instagram.

Putting all your (Easter) eggs in one basket

So that's the interesting thing, do I write for my Facebook audience and focus on sharing more posts there? Or do I write for search and hope it's successful?

Just now I shared a great little article to Facebook, my Valentine's Day gift idea guide. It's had next to no interest.

It could be that people genuinely aren't interested, or it could just be the Facebook algorithm choosing not to share that post with the people following my page.

I just don't know what the answer is. If you are keen on that article it's linked below and has some lovely ideas for someone special.

Or, to drop a hint to someone forgetful. 😁

Inspiration or perspiration

That old adage from Thomas Edison that "genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration" just popped into my head.

I was thinking that working online / on social media is a mix of inspiration, perspiration and divination.

You really are just putting things out into the world and you have no idea what will work, what will flop, and what will - against all odds - randomly go viral.

On that, my November new products reel on Instagram absolutely took off. It racked up some 60,000 views and over 600 new people followed my account.

What made it successful though? No idea. My best guess is that I used a relatively new and popular song.

Kind of wild though, that 500+ people who are genuinely interested in gluten free products potentially only found my account because I used the right music. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

So how will 2026 look for Kati?

I'm still not entirely sure. I do have a few guides sitting in drafts I'd love to finish (pasta, noodles, maybe something else).

I'm really enjoying the success of recipe posts so I'll try to do more of those.

The great thing about recipe articles is that they need very little maintenance. I spend hours every month keeping my gluten free shopping guides up to date.

Whatever I do, the main thing is that it is enjoyable and sustainable. I ended 2025 absolutely burnt out and I don't want to do that again this year.

It's a short newsletter this week, so if you're really feeling that first week back to school, don't worry - this doesn't feel like homework.

Do you need to drop serious hints to get a gift on Valentine's Day? I am not really one to bow to Hallmark holidays, however I do like the idea of a small something to let someone know you're thinking of them.

Fun fact by the way, in Finland it's called ystΓ€vΓ€npΓ€ivΓ€ - Friends Day. You buy nice things for your friends. πŸ₯°
